Two Reasons to Put Your Some of Your Possessions Into a Self Storage Facility

Erik Stone

If your home is filled to the brim with your belongings, then it might be worth putting some of them into a self storage facility. Read on to find out why.

It will make your home more enjoyable to live in

If there is too much clutter in your home, it can be difficult, if not impossible, to keep it looking tidy. This can be frustrating, as you may find that despite making an effort to spruce up your property on a regular basis, it seems to remain in a constant state of disarray.

Excessive amounts of items on every surface can also create a very chaotic, stressful living environment. For example, if there is a sea of belongings on your dining table, you may find yourself choosing to eat your dinner on your lap, rather than face the hassle of clearing away all of that clutter.

Likewise, if the drawers in your kitchen are brimming over with paperwork and miscellaneous bits and bobs, you may find yourself spending a ridiculously long time trying to locate specific items in these areas, as they are hidden amongst the piles of clutter.

The obvious solution to this problem is to de-clutter your home. However, if you undertake this task, you will probably find that there are quite a few items that you want or need to keep, even though they take up a lot of room.

Putting these items into a self-storage facility can allow you to enjoy the best of both worlds; you can experience the pleasure and calmness of living in an organised, clutter-free home, whilst still being able to access your bulky but useful items whenever you want.

It can extend the lifespan of your belongings

Many people choose to put their larger belongings and seasonal goods (such as Christmas decorations or barbecue equipment) into their attics or garages.

Whilst this type of storage solution can help to create more space inside the home, it can also result in these items ending up damaged.

The reason for this is as follows; most garages and attics are not very well insulated. Because of this, they are often quite damp and mouldy. They are also the areas of a property which are most likely to be inhabited by termites, mice or rats.

As such, if you choose to stow away some of your possessions in these sections of your home, there is a chance that their lifespan will be shortened as a result of being exposed to moisture, mould and pests.

Conversely, if you store these goods in a unit at a storage facility, there will be little to no risk of them sustaining damage, as units of this kind are fully sealed (to prevent pest infestations) and climate-controlled (meaning that temperature and humidity levels are carefully regulated, to prevent dampness and mould from developing).

Yo! Are you looking to store your things? If so, you will want to make sure that you get the best rates on self-storage. When I downsized my home after my kids left for college, I suddenly had a lot of stuff that I no longer had any room for. I set out looking for a storage unit to keep it all in, but I couldn't work out all of the options and extras which seemed to increase the cost. Thankfully, my friend Marian came with me. She is a real whizz who has been using self-storage for years. She made sure I got a great deal.
